In August 2015 Sweet Bordeaux celebrated wine in Quebec
The 3rd edition of the Bordeaux Fête le Vin in Quebec was a full house! 50,000 visitors attended, from 27th – 30th August 2015, to discover Bordeaux wines. The Sweet Bordeaux pavilion was one of the most visited, with nearly 13,000 tastings.
Bordeaux Wine Festival in Quebec City, « the place to be »
Launched in 2012, the replica of Bordeaux Fête le Vin is now deep rooted in Quebec. During four days, 50,000 wine enthusiasts came to meet professionals from Bordeaux spread in six pavilions based on the appellations. To taste the wines, 13,000 visitors purchased a pass. And many of them also left with a glass of Sweet Bordeaux and a little yellow pompom, the trademark of Sweet Bordeaux winemakers. More than 12,000 glasses were served at the yellow and black pavilion. Quebec City Mayor, Regis Labeaume and Mayor of Bordeaux, Alain Juppe had also set the tone during the opening of the festivities, enjoying a glass of Sweet Bordeaux, in the company of winemakers.
Serving the Sweet Bordeaux with cheese
If North Americans are accustomed to enjoying a sweet Bordeaux white wine to accompany a sweet dish, Sweet Bordeaux winemakers have encouraged Quebecers to think outside the box. So, Leah Valèze, from Château Bastor Lamontagne held a Sweet Bordeaux tasting booth during the « Grilled Cheese » evening. Some 300 people took part in the tasting. Leah Valèze proposed to combine hot cheese and pea cream sandwiches, with wines from appellations Sauternes and Saint Croix-du-Mont. An experience she hopes to repeat. For this, she will have to wait for two years, 2017, for the return of Bordeaux Fête le vin in Québec. Until then, like the crowd at the port of Quebec, let’s toast to the friendship between the two sides of the Atlantic: tchin! tchin!
